Walk With Your Neighbor

Although in 2020 we may need to be distant,
our need to connect is greater than ever.

Join us SEPTEMBER 12TH & 13TH

Young people all over Chicago-land and beyond will join together to ‘walk with their neighbors’  to  help raise $10,000 for Beacon Place, a community organization in Waukegan that is built on the foundation of neighbors helping neighbors and each year delivers programs to children and families focused on building healthy lifestyles, increasing educational outcomes, and building stronger families and communities.

Our goal is to have more than 1,000 young people  hitting the pavement in different communities to connect and unify neighborhoods of color and those that lack diversity. Our hope, is that these 48 hours of connection will be just the start! That new foundations for friendships will be formed and we will find connections that can be the springboard for change that young people seek for our future.

100% of the funds raised through this event will help support the education programs for children kindergarten through twelfth grade at Beacon Place community center in Waukegan.

FAQ’s:

What is a virtual Walkathon? A virtual walkathon seeks to connect people despite distance. Safety is our top priority, therefore a virtual walkathon allows us to connect neighbors by sharing our experiences of walking, running, or biking in order to promote community collaboration. You will be walking your own route and posting updates on social media and the facebook group using the hashtag #walkwithyourneighbor #beaconplacebemore We hope to have over 1,000 people hitting the pavement in different communities to connect and unify neighborhoods of color and those that lack diversity

What date is the walkathon? September 12th & 13th! Walk either day at any time and be sure to post picture of your 5k to social media saying you walked for your neighbors and use the hashtags #walkwithyourneighbor, and #beaconplacebemore. We want to take to the streets and plaster the press with great messages of connection!

Who can I walk with? Safety first! Walk with anyone whom you have had significant exposure  to and who you know does not have COVID-19.  While we would love to be together, our priority  is help to stop the spread of the virus, so we are asking participants to walk their own 5K route in small groups of family and/or friends. We encourage all participants to use a mask, even when walking outdoors and stay socially distanced on your walk route.

Where is my contribution going? Your efforts will raise money for Beacon Place, a community center in Waukegan with programs for children and families with programs focused on building healthy lifestyles, increasing educational outcomes, and building stronger families and communities.  Our efforts will specifically support their programs providing educational support – which are especially critical as students are being asked to learn remotely.

When will my shirt get here? Your shirt will be mailed directly to you and will arrive the week of September 7th, the week before the walkathon.

What if I don’t want to walk? You can still donate! Go to www.beacon-place.org/donate and put the word WALK in the memo!

We thank you in advance for your contribution!
