Beacon Place Celebrates 5 years of Building Brighter Tomorrows!

There is no greater demonstration of the partnership between the families of the Beacon Place community, and the many volunteers and supporters who make it all happen, than the wonderful celebration that was shared May 3, at the Lake Forest Club.

More than 250 guests filled the room and spoke with the children and families present who shared their experiences about how Beacon Place has impacted their lives. Kevin Bishop, Board President, and Barbara LaFasto, Executive Director, shared with the guests the amazing accomplishments of Beacon Place over the last 5 years.

It has truly been amazing to see a vision become a reality in such a short period. To see a bright spot in a neighborhood that was once bleak, and children and families have dreams that they never thought were possible.

More than 700 children and adults have been touched by the generous volunteers, donors, and partners that make up the Beacon Place family. It is because of YOU this community is stronger.

Local community member, Rebeca Pedraza then shared heartfelt comments about how her family of 5 have each benefited from their experience at Beacon Place, including her husband Luis, who volunteers with other dads, and her three children, Luis, Elizabeth, and Rebeca who have all found new friends, greater confidence, and improved performance at school from the year-round programs at Beacon Place.

Rebecca closed her comments with the thoughts of so many families at Beacon Place saying.

“We do not often get to meet all of the wonderful people who are behind us at Beacon Place, on behalf of my family and so many others, thank you.”

All in the room were touched by the tremendous appreciation expressed by these and other families, truly exemplifying that we all really are, just neighbors helping neighbors, working together to build a brighter tomorrow.

Beacon Place is expanding

Looking back on the past 5 years was only part of the evening, as there was also a chance to share what is ahead! In June, Beacon Place will celebrate the grand opening of our new, 3600 square foot, Beacon Place Learning and Enrichment Center that will be the hub for our summer program operations, expanded learning and meeting space, and give us lots of needed storage.

Those at the event got see photos of the progress and hear how the entire Lake County building community has rallied around this project donating more than $400,000 in materials and in-kind services. Beacon Place programs continue to grow and expand to meet the demand and interest from the community. This new facility will allow more families to be touched by Beacon Place!

With your help, we’ll continue moving forward

Although the event was a success, we still need more financial support to make our programs happen. During the event guests were able to sponsor supplies and materials for various activities.
