Beacon Place’s summer programs are in full swing! Our first day was a busy one, filled with sunshine and over 200 smiling faces ready to eat and play. The second day of summer activity was, unfortunately, a rainy one. However, despite the bad weather over 150 children still found their way to Beacon Place to eat a meal and play tag in the rain! Did you know that more than 643,040 children are food insecure in the state of Illinois, meaning 1 in 5 children under the age of 18 has limited or uncertain access to food. How is this acceptable? How can we allow this to happen? We know the effects of hunger on our children’s growth and development can have long term consequences that we can prevent with proper nutrition. We must not allow our children to be hungry. Please spread the word about our program and others like ours so children may eat.
