Spring Break : Art, Enrichment, Storytelling and IMPROV!

There is a story in all of us and that is exactly what the kids of Beacon Place learned in 5 days of fun over Spring Break!  In a community where most families do not head to warmer climates and tropical locales, Beacon Place provided more than 18 hours of creative, hands on fun for more than 70 kids kindergarten through 10th grade.  With the help of professional storyteller and improv artist, Jeremy Schaefer, the students learned how to think on their feet, tell a story, and literally feed ideas off of each other. The week also included lots of reading and math, incredible art projects including paper bead making, collage, pastels and lots and lots of bead crafts!

The week of fun was the creative brainchild of our amazing Enrichment and Education Director, Anne Durot, and was executed with the help of 25 dedicated volunteers, including many moms and dads from the community.

The week ended with a special performance by all of the students led by Jeremy. A little bit of story telling, a bit more improv, and lots and lots of laughter, made the entire performance a delight for all. Children who would not say a single word into the microphone on Monday, suddenly didn’t want to let it go on Friday!

Special thank you to all of the amazing volunteers, and to Waukegan District 60 and Principal Robert Silva for the use of the gymnasium and stage at Carman Buckner school for the activities of the week.
